A new monographic guide to the North-west of Civetta, the “Wall of Walls”, goes beyond mere mountaineering usefulness. In fact, it is included among the “dutiful” works, if only for the history that this wall contains between its cracks. From the first explorations of the Solleder-Lettenbauer, the first sixth grade route in the Alps, up to the recent achievements (also by the guide’s authors themselves) with extreme difficulties.
A journey, that of this volume, which brings to light important stories, made up of risks, bivouacs, successes and failures, all with the common denominator of the vertical adventure on a vertiginous wall.
78 stories but also 78 timely and updated reports.
This is a selective guidebook covering the best long alpine multi-pitch routes on the north-west face of Civetta.
At around 4km long, the north-west face of Civetta is considered one of the most impressive and recognized features of the Dolomites. For climbers it is renown as the “wall of walls” offering adventurous alpine multi-pitch routes, where the experience of using trad gear is essential. These routes are between 400m and 1,000m long, and are often characterized by featured walls veined by vertical cracks, corners and chimneys.
Each route is described over several pages and includes both a colour photo topo and a hand drawn topo, along with a detailed description. Further information includes what trad gear is required, overall length, approach information, descent information, along with more general tips on strategy.
The guidebook covers all the major peaks and towers of the Civetta north-west face, which are:
1) Torre Coldai
2) Torre D’Alleghe
3) Torre di Valgrande
4) Complesso di Valgrande
5) Pan di Zucchero
6) Punta Civetta
7) Punta Tissi
